This new novel is a
techno-thriller beginning innocently enough with a scientist who has just won
the Nobel Prize for creating a new bacterium that cleared an unprecedented oil
slick in the Persian Gulf.
He then learns that
the bacterium he created has not stopped there. It has eaten its way into
the oil fields of Saudi Arabia and into the tankers now on their way to all
points in the world.
The story rapidly
progresses as a new US President, the first woman US President, and the world grapple with the ensuing
realization, panic, and momentous changes of a world without oil.
As things get
